Title: “No Distance – Can’t calibrate” message error
Post by: tilley on November 15, 2011, 10:46:00 AM
Good day members,

Subject: “No Distance – Can’t calibrate” message error

To perform my distance calibration, I carry out the procedure mentioned at page 38 of the UG_EM manual.

I reset the trip gauges by zeroing all trip. And then I go to Calibrate Distance function to enter my kilometers but I get “No Distance – Can’t calibrate” error message on the display.

I traveled 5 km markers before trying to enter this distance in the unit and getting this error message.

What I do wrong in the procedure?

Thanks your help

The message your receive means that you have reset the distance and it is now too small to perform the calibration.   The order of your calibration steps is not right.

How do I'll do it ?  :D
I obey the procedure at page 38 "Calibrate Distance"

... The order of your calibration steps is not right.

It's not "my own" order  :D
I followed exactly the distance calibration steps mentioned at page 38 of UG-EM manual.
I re-carried out these steps this afternoon. And unfortunately, I got the same error message "No Distance - Can't calibrate"
Something wrong in the procedures printed in the EM manual page 38.
When you reset (zero) All Trip at step 2 page 38, the unit does not recognize your next mile driven to perform the step 4.

Yea, I got the same message. The manual is incorrect. I specifically states that "Calibration can not be performed unless a distance of at least 4 Kilometers or 2.5 miles have been driven". So once you set "Zero All Trip", the distance driven is reset to "0".  You will have to drive at least 2.5 miles before you can calibrate. If you try to calibrate after driving only 1 mile you get the error. I calibrated my unit after driving 3 miles and entering 3.00 in the calibration menu.

I had the same problem.
It was solved when I added a distance gauge in miles on one of the pages and then did the callibration.
As I use metric gauges I removed the distance gauge in miles later on.

I am having the exact same issue...  followed the manual EXACTLY quite a few times.... even drove 5 miles for one attempt.

**** Calibration can not be performed unless a distance of at least 4 Kilometers or 2.5 miles have been driven. ****
To perform the distance calibration follow this procedure:
1. Align front tire with first mile marker
2. Reset the trip gauges: MENU  Gauge Menu  Zero All Trip
3. Travel to the next mile marker, aligning the front tire to the mile marker
4. Select: Menu  Vehicle Setup  Calibration  Calibrate Distance
5. Change the value shown to 1.000 miles*, using the UP and DOWN keys
6. Press Menu to save and set the calibration
Once saved, the calibration factor will be displayed at the bottom of the display.

The only way I was able to set the distance was to  "Reset the UG to all defaults and restart.  I did this at mile 0, drove two miles and then set the distance to two miles.... the distance readings on the UG are still slightly off (reading slightly more miles that actually driven) from my GPS and the road mile markers.... There seems to be no way to adjust this a bit up or down, which is unfortunate.  I will try adding a "miles traveled" guage to see if that helps....

Just to update this issue... I also placed the "trip miles" guage on my page 1 and have had no problems since.  Perhaps a "bug" in the software?

I was struggling with this yesterday...

I would pull over next to a mile marker, reset the trip, drive 1-5 miles, then attempt to calibrate, and would get the same error you're talking about.

Then I realized that I have to exit out of the menus and back to the home screen (with all of the running gauges) for the trip counter to work.  As a side note, when I was doing this, I did have a trip odometer set on one of my home screens.

When I wouldn't exit out of the calibration or trip reset screen, the Ultra Gauge would not recognize that I was travelling, and the trip odometer would not count miles.

My process, to get the calibration to work:

Pulled over by a mile marker
Set the trip odometer to zero (I used a short trip odometer)
Exited out of the gauge menu, back to my home screen, where I could see my trip odometer
Drove 3 miles
Stopped at the 3 mile marker
Went into the calibration menu and calibrated my trip for my 3 miles that I just drove

Hope this helps!

I just d/l the EM manual and found this note on the first page:
**************
 UltraGauge
stops performing mileage, distance and other calculations while the menu system is active.
**************

So as someone noted above, no calibration is possible while the menu system is active.

Since there seem to be a number of users who experience this "feature"  ;D with their UG....  a modification of the users manual with "Exit Menu Mode" inserted in the appropriate locations...  (i.e....  between #2 and 3) would save a lot of frustration.

Agreed. Who else but a nerd will read the OM anyway. ;)

I'd read somewhere else that someone did some testing and found that you really need to do a 50+ mile calibration run for it to truly accurate (or at least close enough for most people).

I had the same issue as the rest of you...but really, 50 miles?  How fast, since the manual mentions that the faster you drive the more accurate the calibration is?

I can understand why the more miles traveled during calibration, the more "accurate" the reading will be, but don't at all understand why driving 70 mph will give a more accurate reading than going 50 mph....  would be nice if our administrator here might shed some light on that.

on the other hand, the UG has become a terrific addition to my Sienna!!

Thanks.  That explains it.
