Outside Ambient Air Temperature
« on: January 29, 2011, 03:01:03 AM »
I was wondering a few things. One, how good is the reading for the outside Air Temp. Two why does it take so long to read the outside temps.

Gauges such as Ambiet Air temp are passed directly from the vehicles ECM and displayed by UltraGauge.  UG does not interpret the data, it just displays a digital value.   The reading is only as accurate and responsive as the vehicle's manufacturer has decided to make it.   Also, the granularity of ambient air temp is in increments of 1 degree Celsius or 1.8 degrees F.   For example, if you were to cool the ECM down to 0 degrees F and then watched it slow heat up the temps displayed would be  0 --> 1.8F --> 3.6 --> 5.4 --> 7.2 --> etc.
