feature request: car black box and usb
« on: November 21, 2011, 06:30:40 PM »
Other vehicle monitoring gauges such as the Autel MaxiTrip TP100 and Roadi TG3 Turbo have a usb port. They have a "car black box" feature that records up to 300 hours of driving data that can be download from the device so driving performance and habits can be tracked. It is also possible to download a firmware update from the internet and update these devices via usb.

Are there any future plans to add those features to the UltraGauge?

A future version of UG may in fact have a USB and functions that can be upgraded in the field.   Work has yet to begin, so it would be a distant future version

Will this future version have buttons on the front? When you say distant, do you mean 2-3 years away?

I like your idea of the buttons on the front silent_tiger85, maybe they are on the rear to stop drivers fiddling with the device whilst driving.
The ability to be able to leave the cable insitu and remove the UG itself would also be great improvement, but the manufacturer and supplier/seller have to juggle improvements with keeping the cost affordable as it is at the moment.

UltraGauge Admin do you have any input into the manufacture of the gauge as to what will be built into them or do you just buy them in and resell them?

UltraGauge was designed and is manufactured by UltraGauge.com.

A good deal of thought and deliberation went into the design of UltraGauge.   We gathered feedback from potential users on most every aspect.   We had mach ups with buttons on the front and the back.    The buttons in the back won out as it was found to be just as easy to use, lower cost, and safer.     UltraGauge was designed to be affordable by all.  There are several features we could have added but when asked only a small percentage of customers would actually consider the incremental cost worth the feature.
